Making sense of complexity

A solid approach to organise the multitude of ideas and opinions

You see challanges lying ahead in your organization, problems that need to be solved, new opportunites that have to be identified and exploited in order for the company to maintain its position in the market and keep on fullfilling the mission it has set itself. The more people you talk to about this, the more you realize that everybody has different ideas about the situation and, especially, many different ideas about what should be done. In meetings there are discussions, however, they often lead to people explaining why their ideas are the right ones.

Do you recognize one or more of these?

Then this course is for you!

  • You are content driven and aim to do useful and meaningful things for your organization. You like to work with other talented people, who have the drive to make something happen too.

  • You see your organization in a difficult complex situation and you hear everybody talk about why their ideas for a solution are the best. You see reports being published, you see exterenal advisors leave. Are you happy now? Confident that it will be allright?

  • As consultant, you want to seriously understand your client's situation, help to realize the potential, recognize and design the many options, help to compare them and help them decide for the promising ones. But how?

  • Your 'happiness' in your work is not what it used to be. From time to time, you worry. You even feel frustration, especially when nothing really seems to happen. Your energy gets drained. Your energy level gets lower.

Learn to influence the decision making

In order to influence the decision being taken, you need to find out WHAT the complex situation precisely is about, WHY things are functioning as they are and determine multiple options for HOW to change and improve that situation. You can influence the strategic decision making through analyzing the situations, compare all options and formulate your opinion or advice while staying true to yourself. You need to keep your energy level balanced, to find a sustainable way of working.

Alexander de Haan

Hello Everyone! Thanks for showing interest in this course 'Dealing with complex problems', I will be your coach in this course. I am an Aerospace Engineer MSc, a Social Psychologist MA, hold a PhD in Systems Engineering, Policy Analysis and Management, and, most importantly, I really like people, especially people who want to achieve something in complex situations, combining the 'hard, systematic engineering' and 'soft psychological' side of life. For over 20 years I have worked with people. Well over 200,000 students in my worldwide on-line classes, hundreds of bachelor, master or MBA students, large groups of management trainees, managers, MTs, CFOs, CEOs, boards of directors, and, (professional) athletes. What I am interested in is how I can help people in getting where they really want to be, instead of being depended on what others think is 'good' or 'not good'. I love tapping into the potential of any person and any team. Helping people (and you!) to see what of their behavior brings them closer to their objectives and what does not. Making these patterns, convictions and habits visible, use them or replace them if necessary for patterns, convictions, habits and behavior that helps them in reaching their objectives. Join in! I am looking forward to be working with you.
